A poem by Susan Njoroge: Creativity
CREATIVITY

What is creativity?
Making something
Makes me something
Makes me think of something
Something I find exciting
Something others find exciting

Is it meant to make me feel vital?
Is it meant to make me ponder?
Or is that just an interesting action, thought, idea?
Or is it the same action, thought, idea but from a different perspective?
What is creativity?
Is it my reference, yours or theirs?

My creativity is in things that make me go "Hhhmm"
Just like it was in that 90s song
What are you looking for me to say on creativity?
Why does it have to be defined? We do that and it loses meaning
We put it in a box, make it rigid, give it fixed parameters

Create…
That's waking up every morning and thinking this day
Could be different from yesterday,
It could be what I want it to be, or it could be like every other day

…Ivity,
That's the living, the sparkle, the exciting, the unknown
The "Hhhmm" in my every new day,
It's what makes me think,
"Today, I did my routine, like every other day but each day was different from yesterday, I felt energy, yeah, let's do it again tomorrow"

But tomorrow isn't Groundhog Day,
Tomorrow is Create
What happens along the way
That's the "Hhhmm", that's the …ivity

Did I answer the question 'what is Creativity?'
