I propose that there is a fragile inter-dependence between work, relationships and our environment and that a change in any one area can significantly influence the other areas. Given the rapid pace of unpredictable change in the world today, it seems reasonable to expect either work or relationships or the immediate environment to be in a state of flux at any given time. However, if two areas are under threat simultaneously, then this could very easily provoke significant and probably unwelcome change in the third area unless corrective and proactive action is taken.
It therefore becomes important to maintain each area and take proactive action when necessary if overall stability is to be sustained.
We all have a certain amount of energy to put into our lives and perhaps it is useful to stop and consider where we are spending our time and energy in relation to home, work and relationships.
Where we decide to focus our attention will inevitably influence outcomes and therefore, providing we are prepared to be proactive, we all have the ability to positively influence and shape our lives. The risk in not being proactive is that we could easily neglect any one area which if left unchecked, could provoke wider change.
In the model above, the central point where all three areas connect is of course, ourselves. The more that we are able to develop ourselves and our capacity to be effective, then the more influence we are likely to exert across these mainstays in our lives.
Work, relationships and a person's environment are likely to be of differing levels of importance at different stages in life.
